Learning Objectives
- Recognize the presentation, diagnosis, comorbidity, neurobiology, and current treatment options available for individuals with ADHD.
- Review the presentation of ADHD across the life span; risk factors related to the persistence of the disorder and the neurobiology, heritability and genetic contributions of ADHD.
- Differentiate common co-occurring conditions, such as learning disabilities, substance use, depressive and bipolar disorders, tic disorders, and anxiety.
- Define effective psychotherapies, including family-based, individual, cognitive-behavioral, integrative, and multi-modal interventions.
- Compare and contrast the pharmacological interventions for children, adolescents and adults with ADHD, including both stimulant and non-stimulant compounds.

In 2011, Dr. Joseph Biederman gave a single unpaid talk for Juste Pharmaceutical Spain, received honoraria from the MGH Pschiatry Academy for a tuition-funded CME course, and received honoraria for presenting at international scientific conference on ADHD. He also received an honorarium from Cambridge University Press for a chapter publication. Dr. Biederman received departmental royalties from a copyrighted rating scale used for ADHD diagnoses, paid by Eli Lilly, Shire and AstraZeneca; these royalties are paid to the Department of Psychiatry at MGH.
In 2010, Dr. Joseph Biederman received a speaker's fee from a single talk given at Funcadion Dr. Manuel A.C. in Monterry Mexico.
