Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify barriers to treatment adherence in chronically psychotic patients, and demonstrate the ability to effectively assess and promote treatment adherence during office visits.
- Perform an appropriate baseline assessment of patients to identify risk factors for developing metabolic abnormalities, institute a periodic monitoring regimen to assess patients for antipsychotic-induced metabolic side effects.
- Effectively promote psychosocial rehabilitation of chronically psychotic patients by incorporating skills training, vocational support, substance abuse treatment, family psychoeducation, and targeted psychotherapeutic techniques in an outpatient treatment plan.
