Description

There are about two dozen FDA-approved antidepressant agents on the market, with demonstrated efficacy and safety. With the growing number of available therapeutic options, the psychiatric field is increasingly focused on addressing specific treatments that are best suited to certain patients and how to maximize the efficacy of these treatments while minimizing adverse effects. This simulation will teach participants the differential efficacy and safety of the various therapies as well as improved characterization of populations that may be more vulnerable to depression and/or more likely to respond to a particular therapy. An improved understanding of the efficacy and side effects of the medication will allow physicians to address patient attitudes towards antidepressants and improve patient ability and confidence in managing side effects, both of which are associated with improved long-term adherence to pharmacotherapy.
