Description

Spaulding Rehabilitation Network Virtual Grand Rounds Series:

Focus on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Live and On-Demand Sessions, broadcasted from Boston, MA, are focused on physical medicine and rehabilitation.

This free, five-part series provides live access to expert faculty from the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. In each of the five one-hour sessions, you have the opportunity not only to hear the latest evidence-based research and data, but also to ask clinical questions that help you translate that research into your daily clinical practice and care for patients.

Topics in this interactive series focus on the latest research and developments for the treatment of patients with traumatic brain injury, musculoskeletal problems, orthopedic injuries, and concussion. Faculty include some of the world’s leading clinician-researchers in their respective fields, and they discuss neurological and psychosocial assessment techniques, interventions for physical injuries, and salutary effects on increasing mobility while identifying potential therapeutic interventions in special populations.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
  • Review the neurological and psychosocial sequelae, assessment techniques, and the long term implications of concussions.
  • Recognize the unique stigmata, diagnostic and treatment approaches, including neuroimaging, and neuromodulatory interventions associated with different disorders of consciousness.
  • Identify the specific running mechanics that are associated with injury and be able to administer a gait retraining intervention for running-related injuries.
  • Describe the salutary effects of increased mobility and the consequences of falls and decreased mobility on the elderly and effective fall prevention practices.
  • Summarize the significance of mobility problems among older adults from a public health perspective.
  • Describe clinical tests that screen for mobility problems and mobility related disability among older adults and identify pathophysiologic factors that underlie mobility decline and that are potential targets for therapeutic interventions.
