Biography

R. Bruce Lydiard, MD, PhD, is Director of Southeast Health Consultants in Charleston, South Carolina, and a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He earned his BA in psychology, PhD in pharmacology, and MD at the University of Minnesota. He trained in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital where he also served as Chief Resident ofPsychopharmacology.

Dr. Lydiard has been the principal investigator of over 150 clinical trials and NIH-funded studies on topics such as treating alcoholics with panic disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, psychiatric disorders, victimization and healthcare utilization, and comparing the efficacy of different pharmacological treatments for co-existing panic disorder and major depression. He has worked as an advisor to the American Psychiatric Association DSM-IV work groups for social phobia and panic disorder. He is also a member of the APA, the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, Collegium Internationale Neuropsychopharmacologicum (CINP), and the Brain-Gut Research Society. He is also a consultant on standards of medical practice for the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners. He has published over 260 papers and book chapters. His is a reviewer for 23 journals and is on the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and CurrentPsychiatry.
